The Shipyard

Researching and building hulls: classes, roles, costs, queues and bay space.

“A hull is a promise. What you bolt onto it decides whether you keep it.”

— Fleet Admiral Selene Voss

Choosing a hull

The Shipyard lists hulls by faction, then class, then hull. There are ten classes, from the Fighter to the Dreadnought, and seven roles in each class. The role is the last word of every hull name:

RoleName ending
TankBulwark
SupportWarden
AssaultStriker
ScoutOutrider
SiegeBreaker
InterceptorTalon
CommandSovereign

Compare every hull's stats in the Ships reference.

Research, then build

Small hulls can be built straight away. Bigger hulls must be researched first. Research costs twice the hull's build cost and needs a minimum player level:

ClassResearch neededResearch at player levelXP per ship built
FighterNo, build straight away50
CutterNo, build straight away101
CorvetteNo, build straight away205
FrigateYes20416
DestroyerYes25843
CruiserYes301,708
BattlecruiserYes353,462
BattleshipYes407,014
CarrierYes4514,213
DreadnoughtYes5028,800

Building a hull costs its build price, paid when the build starts. When the build finishes, you get the ship and player XP: the hull's XP value. Building ships is how your commander levels up.

Queues and bay space

Your shipyard has limited room. Right now every commander has:

LimitValue
Ships in your bay (built + building)5
Ship builds at once1
Ship research at once1
Fleet slots2

Queued items count against those limits, and finished ships count against your bay. A hull tile shows why you can't build it: Research Required, Requires Level, Bay Full, Build Queue Full, Research Queue Full or Insufficient Resources.

Your player level shortens build and research times:

Player levelBuild speedResearch speed
Start
Level 5++5%+5%
Level 10++10%+10%
Level 20++20%+15%
Level 30++30%+25%

A bonus shortens a timer to time ÷ (1 + bonus).
