History
The Technocrat Union was founded by the scholars of the Imperial Academies, who computed the triage the Throne was about to order after the Long Flare, published the numbers and walked out. They took the Ring's great computation arrays with them and built a civilisation on a single principle: suffering is to be minimised by arithmetic.
The Union solved war like an equation. Every gram of mass in its ships is justified, every railgun round is an armor-cracking solution, every shield is phased to perfection. It is efficient, precise, and utterly without sentiment. Its enemies say that the Union's mercy is the coldest thing in the Frontier. The Union agrees, and considers that a compliment.
On the Tide
The Union's models of the Tide are the most complete in the Frontier. It does not share them. Frontier Command suspects the numbers are bad.
“They will always make the right decision. You will not always survive it.”
— Frontier Command assessment, Fleet Admiral Selene Voss
