Unaligned

Standard Issue

Mass-produced, doctrine-free, and reliably unremarkable — the equipment of crews who haven't yet chosen a side, or never will. Doctrine — Baseline Reference: all stat skews remain 1.0. The neutral yardstick every other faction is balanced against.

Frontier Command is the neutral institution founded by the Frontier Accord after the Rim Burning. It is not a faction and it holds no territory beyond Meridian Station. It does not fight the Long War. It has one mission: to train, license and equip commanders capable of holding the line against the Tide.

Every commander in the Frontier, whatever banner they later fly, begins here. Recruits are issued Standard Issue, the Unaligned hulls, built to doctrine-free specifications that every other power's equipment is measured against. They are trained in fleet command, base construction and combat against the Tide, and they are entered in the Record, Frontier Command's ledger of every licensed commander's service.

The Accord's hull registry is also why every warship in the Frontier carries a Frontier Command role designation after its faction name: Bulwark, Warden, Striker, Outrider, Breaker, Talon or Sovereign. A Rebellion "Drill Striker" and an Imperial "Radiance Striker" are built by enemies, but a commander of either side knows at once what the ship is for.

Fleet Admiral Selene Voss

Fleet Admiral Selene Voss directs Frontier Command's training programme, and hers is the voice of every commander's briefings.

Voss was born on the Rim and commissioned into the Iron Vanguard. As a young commodore at the Grey Verge, she held her squadron together through nineteen days of the Rim Burning and brought every ship home when the line broke, the only flag officer to do so. She resigned her Vanguard commission to join Frontier Command in 375 AL, and has trained every generation of commanders since. She has never sworn to another faction. She says that she already knows who the enemy is.

“Every commander I train asks me who the enemy is. I tell them the truth: whoever you are shooting at today, and the thing that is coming for all of you tomorrow.”
