History
The Deep Space Explorers are older than the Frontier. They were the pathfinder crews of the Long Dark, flying ahead of the arks to chart the black between stars, and it was their instruments that found Aurelia. They have never lost the habit of looking further than anyone else.
The Explorers fight the way they survey: from impossible range, with instruments sharper than any blade. They built the Farsight beacon line that first detected the Tide's return, and they hold the largest archive of precursor artifacts in the Frontier. They are also the power most frightened by what that archive says, though they are too disciplined to show it.
On the Tide
They saw it first and they have been studying it longest. They are not optimistic.
“The best eyes in the Frontier. When an Explorer tells you to move your fleet, do not ask why. Move it.”
— Frontier Command assessment, Fleet Admiral Selene Voss
