Alpha build 81 is live. It is not a required update: Steam brings it in by itself (exit Steam completely and start it again if it has not appeared), and build 80 can still join while it does.
Commander XP from the Tide
- Beating a Tide fleet now pays commander XP: a tenth of the Hull XP of the Tide ships you destroy, the same rule as a win over another commander.
- Beating the Tide again pays just as much, every time.
- The bigger the fleet, the more it pays: a full win over a mid-sized Tide fleet is worth about 1,000 to 4,000 XP, over the top tiers about 7,000 to 17,000.
- First builds and first research run out at about level 27. From there, winning battles is the road up, and now that means the Tide as well as other commanders.
The opening cinematic
- On some graphics cards the film crashed the game at every start. Now, if a start ends while the film is playing, the next start skips the film on that computer, so the game always gets past it. A new graphics driver brings the film back.
- Fleet Admiral Voss's hair, collar and badge had light smears in her scene. It is recorded again at full detail.
- If you added
-NoLoadingScreento the game's launch options to get past the film, you can take it out now.
Fixed
- On slower computers (about 10 frames a second or less), every fleet's name tag blinked on and off at the same time. The tags stay on now.
- A red line such as TEXTURE STREAMING POOL OVER ... BUDGET, a warning meant for developers, showed over the game on some computers. It is hidden now.
Thanks to the testers who sent the videos, pictures and crash files that found these. The changelog has the whole list, and the player's guide has the XP table.
