Alpha build 50 - back in straight after a crash, and a base that sends only what changed
Alpha build 50 is live, and this one is a required update: the game and the server changed together, so Alpha build 49 can no longer connect. Exit Steam completely and start it again to get build 50. The game server restarted at 12:40 UTC. Nothing was wiped.
Back in straight after a crash
If your game crashed or lost its connection, starting it again could be refused for up to a minute with "Steam did not accept your sign-in". It happened five times in the last day. The server was still holding on to the connection that had died, and would not let the same account in twice.
It now sees that the old connection has gone quiet, closes it, and lets you back in a second or two later.
If your account really is playing on another computer, the second sign-in is still refused, and the message now says that.
If you are still refused after a crash, tell us the time it happened. This is the kind of fix that only real crashes can prove.
Your base sends only what changed
- When one building changes, the server sends that building, not the whole base again. On the largest base in the game, one upgrade used to send every building and all 625 pads.
- One action in your base is one update. Upgrading, building, cancelling and collecting each made the server put your base together twice; it now does it once.
- The base screen redraws only what changed. The construct list, the pads and the buildings on the deck are no longer rebuilt every time anything in the base moves.
On a small base you will not see a difference. This is for the bases you are growing into, and for a server with many more commanders on it.
Good to know
- A restart of the server brings every deployed fleet home to its bay, and a battle that was running when it stopped is called off: no damage, no report. Deploy again and carry on.
- If Steam does not offer the update, exit Steam completely (Steam, then Exit) and start it again.
- Alpha Round 11 on the playtest page is still open.
