Alpha build 41 is live. This is a client and server update and the two had to go live together, so if you were online during the restart, start the game again. Restart Steam if the download does not appear.
Most of this is about base turrets, which were not telling you the truth about what they cover.
Every gun gets its own firing arc
Hover an armed turret and you now see one arc per fitted weapon, each drawn from that weapon's own mount rather than from the middle of the building.
Before, a turret showed a single arc covering the whole building. If you had two guns of different marks on one heavy turret, the weaker one's arc sat entirely inside the stronger one's and you simply could not see it - the display was showing you your best reach and quietly hiding the rest. On a heavy turret the two arcs are now visibly side by side, one per barrel.
Heavy turrets face the right way round
Twelve of the thirteen factions had their heavy turret built nose-on: the hull ran away from you and the two gun mounts sat one behind the other, which is not how a turret works.
They now present their wide side forward with the guns side by side. Deep Space Explorers was the one faction already built correctly, and it is what the other twelve were matched to.
The arc follows the turret when you rotate it
It used to swing round for a moment and then snap back to a fixed direction. The arc was only ever aimed at the moment it was first drawn, and rotating a turret did not count as a reason to redraw it. It does now.
Turrets that traverse a full circle also had their arc centred behind them rather than on their forward. You could not see that while the ring was closed, but it was wrong.
Mark upgrades work on base and outpost modules
Pressing UPGRADE on a base weapon did nothing whatsoever - no message, no error, nothing in any log you could see. The server was only looking for the module in your ship inventory, and a base module is not kept there, so it gave up silently.
It now checks all three inventories. And if an upgrade is ever refused for a real reason, it tells you instead of doing nothing.
Base and outpost weapon ranges corrected
Your base and outpost weapons will read shorter than they did yesterday, and that is the fix rather than a nerf.
A range change intended for ship weapons had been applied to base and outpost weapons too, stretching their reach about five and a half times further than it was ever meant to be. Those are back to their authored values. Ship weapon ranges are unchanged.
