Alpha build 33: the Solar Empire fleet arrives

Build 33 is live on Steam, and the server changed with it — so this one is not optional. Let Steam update, and if it does not show up, exit Steam completely and start it again.

The Solar Empire fleet is here

All 70 Solar Empire hulls now have real models, from the smallest fighter up to the dreadnought. Burnished gold over white ceramic, sunburst crowns, and cathedral spires on the command ships.

The thing worth noticing is that you can now tell what a ship does by looking at it. Siege hulls are built around a spinal lance that runs nearly the whole length of the ship. Scouts bristle with dish arrays and sensor masts. Support ships fold out service cranes. Interceptors are mostly engine. Command ships wear a tall spire you can pick out across a fleet list.

Alien Hive and Miner Rebellion are finished

Both fleets are complete. Every hull in both factions has its own model now instead of standing in with shared art.

Every icon in all three factions has also been re-rendered from the actual model, so the picture on the card is the ship you get. Previously some icons were concept art drawn before the model existed, and they did not always match what turned up in your fleet.

The shipyard preview is fixed

The ship detail view used to wash out and lose its surface detail the moment you opened it. It now stays sharp and lit properly, so you can actually see the hull you are about to build.

One honest note

Solar Empire ships were reading like mirrors when they first went in — chrome rather than gold. That is toned down in this build. If they still look too polished to you on your monitor, say so in the feedback channel; it is a single number and easy to adjust.

Ten factions still have placeholder ship art. Those are coming.
