Alpha build 30 is out

Build 30 is live on Steam. It is a small one, and it exists mostly to fix something that stopped a tester playing entirely.

Update your game

Let Steam download it. If the update does not show up, exit Steam completely and start it again.

What it fixes

The game would not start at all on some PCs. If your computer had never run a game built the way this one is, launching stopped immediately with a message demanding the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable. That one was our fault: the installer that is supposed to handle this quietly in the background was not being shipped with the game at all. Steam now installs it for you the first time you install, and the installer also sits inside the game folder as a fallback.

If you already went and installed it by hand to get playing, that is perfectly fine and nothing gets installed twice.

Already live on the server

These two went out earlier today and needed no download, so you may have seen them already.

Instant-finishing a module no longer refunds its resources. Paying coins to finish a module early used to hand most of your minerals, helium and antimatter straight back, so you ended up with the module and your materials. That made buying a module out the cheapest way to get one, which is not how any of the other instant-finishes work. It now costs what it says it costs.

Cancelling a build still refunds you, and that has not changed. When you cancel you do not get the module; when you instant-finish you do.

Construction that finished while you were logged out could get stuck forever. When the server starts it looks for building work that came due while its owner was away, so it is finished and waiting when you get back. That check was throwing the work away instead of completing it, and once a base was affected it stayed affected until the server restarted, which put it straight back into the same state. Fourteen builds across thirteen players were stuck this way, the oldest since the 25th. Every one of them has now been completed. Nothing was lost.

Keep the reports coming

Both of today's fixes came from testers posting in Discord, and the second one had been quietly breaking things for days before anyone caught it. The bug reports channel is the fastest way to get something looked at, and a screenshot is usually all it takes.
